INTRO TO LEATHER BOOK BINDING WORKSHOP

Class Date: Friday, October 23rd

Class Time: 5:30 - 8:30PM

Create a special journal to document your upcoming travels or keep track of your daily journals! In our Leather Journal Bookbinding workshop, Chelsea will show you step-by-step how to bind up a thick journal insert full of plenty of mixed paper for your future sketches and journaling.

We'll also stitch together a luscious leather cover to keep it all wrapped up and protected. With your newfound bookbinding skills, you can bind up more inserts for your leather cover to keep the adventures going for many years to come! 

Chelsea, maker and artist behind Sketchy Notions will be coming all the way from California to lead this incredible workshop!

You will learn the history of book binding as well as hands-on instruction as you stitch a genuine leather sketchbook cover. You will also learn how to bind your paper to create inserts for your book cover so you can continue to use your beautiful leather cover over and over again. 

You will also have the opportunity to bind a stock covered book to explore binding on a different material! 

You will leave the workshop you a handmade, one-of-a-kind leather notebook cover and multiple inserts and all your bookbinding tools to continue crafting at home!

Each workshop ticket includes:

  • 3 hours of hands on instruction a talented artist and small business owner

  • Bookbinding 101 guide + templates

  • A piece of luxury leather (your choice of brown or black)

  • A variety of papers to bind into your mixed paper inserts including: drawing, mixed media and watercolor papers

  • Use of bookmarking and bookbinding supplies

  • Beads to decorate bookmarks
  • Individual light meal

  • Sweets + treats

  • Beverages (sparkling water and sparkling wine)

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR: CHELSEA WARD

Chelsea is the artist and owner of Sketchy Notions, a stationery brand based in Los Angeles, CA. She's an alumni of UT Austin, where she learned a love of bookbinding, printmaking and watercolors. When she isn't brainstorming a trip back to Italy, she can be found sketching plants and flowers, playing with her son or taking pictures of her two cats.

Cancellations: We do not allow cancellations as we have committed to compensating our instructor for their time, supplies and talent. However, if you are unable to attend the workshop, let us know within 48 hours and you can either send someone else in your place or pick up any personal workshop materials the week following the class.

Dietary restrictions: We will be providing a light snack for all of our workshop attendees. At this time we are not able to cater to every dietary restriction but will have a vegetarian option available. Please make a selection at check out, once your selection has been made we are unable to modify. Students are always welcome to bring their own additional snack for the workshop.

Age requirements: The Paper + Craft Pantry workshops are created for adults and are not recommended for anyone under the age of 18 years old. We are unable to seat anyone under age without a ticketed parent or legal guardian who is also attending this class.
